Former dictator of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf has said the previous military rulers had brought the nation on track but the civilian governments have derailed it.
Musharraf, who faces treason charges, made the statement during an interview with BBC Urdu in Dubai, reports the Indian Express.
He said: “Whoever works actively against the welfare of Pakistan is against the country and should be killed.
“The Constitution can be ignored if there is a need to save the nation.”
Defended the military rulers, the former president said real development occurred only during military regimes and accused the civil governments of reversing the progress achieved during military rules.

“Military rule has always brought the country back on track, whereas civilian governments have always derailed it,” he said. “Dictators set the country right, whereas civilian governments brought it to ruins.”
The 73-year-old served as Pakistan’s president from 2001 to 2008 and has been staying in Dubai since he left Pakistan in March 2016.

Musharraf, who toppled the civilian government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999 in a military coup, is facing several charges, including treason for abrogating the Constitution and declaring emergency in 2007.
He has also been charged for his alleged involvement with the murder of two-time Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.
On July 28, Nawaz Sharif was forced to step down as Pakistan’s Prime Minister after the Supreme Court found him guilty and disqualified him from holding office in Pakistan over corruption claims against his family.
Later, Musharraf posted a video on the social media hailing the verdict.
