Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi on Friday tweeted that the country has won following his and the BJP's emphatic win in the 2014 general elections.
Modi tweeted:"India has won! Good days are ahead of us."
Narendra Modi, has reportedly won from Vadodara in Gujarat by a record three lakh votes over his nearest rival from the Congress, Madhusudan Mistry.
Latest results aired on television channels show the opposition National Democratic Alliance leading in 337 seats (+ 196), UPA leading in 58 seats (-176) .The leads are available for 538 out of the 543 seats that are up for grabs.
According to The Guardian, the mood is utterly jubilan at the BJP's headquarters in Delhi.
The party has hired two elephants, painted with lotus symbols, to celebrate the victory, she reports. They have not spared any cost or symbolism to project just how well they have won.
The range of support expressed for the BJP including from young and old women and members of minority communities were surprising.
"People feel the biggest issue is the lack of jobs and the lack of growth and Mr Modi has convinced them that he is the best option to get India's economy moving," a witness said.
