Taliban strike leaves 13 dead in Pakistan

At least 13 people were killed and 18 others wounded in a suicide bomb attack near a Pakistani military base in Rawalpindi on Monday morning.

The powerful blast tore through the RA Bazar area close to the Pakistan military's General Headquarters around 7:45am, local media Dawn reported.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the blast.

This was the second Taliban strike in the area within a week, accompanied by threats of continuing their vendetta against security forces of Pakistan.

Six army men and seven civilian died in Monday's blast, Harron Joya, a senior police official said. “It was a suicide attack.”

“The attack took place when children were going to school. Our initial assessment is that the bomber was possibly on a bicycle and then approached on foot.”

On Sunday, Taliban bombed a convoy of the security forces, killing 20 people and injuring 30 others near Razmak gate in the Cantt area, in what was one of the biggest attacks in recent times.
