The Indian Congress-backed INDIA alliance is leading in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra. Meanwhile, BJP-led NDA is currently leading in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Delhi and Karnataka.
After 44 days of an election across seven phases, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is counting more than 600 million votes cast by Indians as they choose their next national government.
The vote count started at 8am, local time. At stake are 543 seats in the Lok Sabha – the lower house of India’s parliament.

Uttar Pradesh
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh's political battleground delivered a closely contested result. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 36 seats out of the 80 available, maintaining a strong foothold in the state. The Samajwadi Party (SP) followed closely with 34 seats, demonstrating a significant resurgence. The Indian National Congress captured 6 seats, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) failed to win any.
Maharashtra
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra's political landscape showcased a highly fragmented electorate. Out of 48 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 14, reflecting a notable presence. The Indian National Congress and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) each won 11 seats, indicating their strong regional influence. The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) captured 7 seats, while the other Shiv Sena faction secured 5 seats.
West Bengal
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal reaffirmed its strong support for the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which secured a dominant 31 out of 42 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win 10 seats, maintaining a notable but significantly smaller presence compared to the TMC. The Indian National Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) failed to win any seats, reflecting a continued decline in their influence within the state.
Bihar
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar's political scene presented a mixed yet intriguing outcome. The Janata Dal (United) emerged as the leading party, winning 15 out of 40 seats, signaling strong voter support. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) closely followed with 13 seats, demonstrating their substantial influence in the state.
Karnataka
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Karnataka demonstrated a decisive preference for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured 17 out of 28 seats. The Indian National Congress won 9 seats, reflecting a significant yet secondary position in the state. The Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) managed to capture 2 seats, indicating a more limited influence. No seats were won by other parties or independent candidates.
Telangana
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Telangana has made a significant contribution to the national results. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured 129 seats nationwide, while the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc has achieved 101 seats.
Delhi
