An Indian student was detained on Sunday for reportedly urinating on another passenger on a Delhi-bound flight.
The student was allegedly drunk on an American Airlines aircraft.
This is the third time in recent months that a passenger has urinated on another passenger while intoxicated.
The incident took place on American Airlines flight AA292, which departed from New York on Friday and arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi on Saturday, reports the Hindustan Times.
Delhi airport DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla said a passenger from American Airlines filed a complaint against one person, who is studying in the US, for urinating on him. The student lives in Defence colony in Delhi.
"We are pursuing the required legal measures," he said.
The accused urinated while he was sleeping and was intoxicated. It somehow leaked and dropped on another passenger, who then complained to the crew, a source at the airport told PTI.
The victim was reluctant to report the incident as the accused apologized to them.
However, the airline reported the incident to the IGI airport's Air Traffic Control (ATC).
The pilot informed the authorities, who then warned the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) soldiers about the situation.
The accused was thereafter handed over to the Delhi police, who recorded the statements of those involved in the case.
The airline said in a statement that the incident was handled "professionally" and that there were no delays in the flight's safe landing.
The statement read: "We're grateful to our crews, who are consistently committed to the safety and care of our clients and manage the conditions with the utmost professionalism.”
A similar event occurred on an Air India flight between New York and Delhi on November 26, 2022. Shankar Mishra was accused of peeing on an elderly woman while intoxicated.
A media story that was published about a month after the occurrence led to the filing of an FIR and the arrest of Mishra.
He was released on bail after spending nearly a month in jail.
Another incident happened barely a week after the November 26 incident.
A drunk male passenger allegedly urinated on a female passenger's blanket on a Paris-Delhi flight.
However, no legal action was taken after the accused apologized in writing.
