Congress lawmaker Rahul Gandhi, the son of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, has been taken into custody for leading a protest in Delhi.
He protested over a number of issues which include the price rise and GST to identify the agenda of the opposite party, reports NDTV.
His grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi took part in a protest for the similar reason, which the party referred to as "history repeating.”
Rahul Gandhi told NDTV: "I am not courting arrest, I am protesting against price rise, unemployment, for the voice of the people...". He was seen taking images of the policemen while sitting in the street alone before being detained.
This protest lasted for an hour until the MPs involved were taken into custody one by one.
Rahul Gandhi said while being taken to the police bus, "India is a police state, Modi is a king,"
At the same time, Sonia Gandhi, along with her daughter were present at the Enforcement Directorate for the second round of questioning in connection with the National Herald case. Her son Rahul Gandhi was also present in this meeting before joining the protest.
The MPs who were supposed to march in the streets in front of Rashtrapati Bhavan had to stop their protest because of the interference of the police force.
The congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said: "We are protesting as per the instruction of the police. All of this is a conspiracy by PM Modi and Amit Shah to completely destroy the opposition and muzzle our voices. We won't be scared, our fight will continue”.
