Sologamy: Indian woman decides to marry herself

For Bindu self-love comes first. Hailing from Gujarat’s Vadodara, the 24-year-old wanted to set an example of self-acceptance, which is why she chose to marry herself.

Bindu maintains that this is not a publicity stunt.

Both the venue and the vows are set. She is going the whole nine yards, getting married to herself completing all rituals and ceremonies including the “pheras” and the sindoor.

The big day is set for June 11.

"I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So I decided to marry myself," NDTV quoted Bindu as saying.

The bride-to-be had done extensive research on the matter online but failed to find any other instances of sologamy in the country. "Maybe I am the first to set an example of self-love in our country," she said.

"What I am actually trying to portray is that women matter.”

Terming the whole thing an act of self-acceptance, she said: “Self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for oneself. People marry someone they love. I love myself and hence this wedding.”

Bindu, who works for a private firm, will be heading for a two-week honeymoon to Goa with nobody but herself after the ceremony.

She said her parents had been supportive of her unique decision.
