Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has expressed profound shock at the death of renowned writer Hasan Azizul Haque, saying that his demise is an irreparable loss to Bengali literature.
"I express deep shock at the death of Bangladesh's noted literary personality Hasan Azizul Haque. His death is an irreversible loss to the literature," said Mamata Banerjee in a condolence message forwarded by India High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The writer was born in Jobgram of Mangalcot in Bardhaman of West Bengal and passed his school life in Bardhaman, she added.
The West Bengal chief also conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the members and relatives of Hasan Azizul’s family.
People from all walks of life paid their last respects to the short-story writer and novelist who died Monday night at the age of 82.
The Ekushey Padak-winning author's body was brought to Central Shaheed Minar of Rajshahi University around noon.
In August, Hasan Azizul was airlifted to Dhaka after he fell seriously ill. He returned home a few days later. He had age-related health issues, heart problems and diabetes.
The prominent literary works of Hasan Azizul Haque include “Agunpakhi”, “Namhin Gotrohin”, “Socrates”, “Bodhibader Katha Nana Pathe” and “Ei Puratan Akharguli”.
