An 84-year-old man from India’s Bihar state claims to have received no fewer than 11 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in a span of as many months.
Brahmadev Mandal, a resident of Orai village in Madhepura district, said he has “benefited” from taking 11 doses of the vaccine.
The matter came to light on Tuesday when Mandal visited a vaccination centre to take his 12th shot, only to be caught by the authorities.
“I benefited a lot from the vaccine. This is why I have been taking it repeatedly,” Mandal told an Indian media outlet.
A retired postal department employee, Mandal said he received his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in February and the 11th one in December last year.
He reportedly used his Aadhaar card and his phone number for getting inoculated eight times and his voter ID card and wife’s phone number on the three other occasions.
When asked about the matter, health department officials said the systems at the offline vaccination centres can be cheated at times.
“... the data on the computer and the on the offline register differ sometimes,” India Today quoted an official as saying.
Madhepura Civil Surgeon Amarendra Pratap Shahi said a probe has been initiated to look into the issue.
