Woman in Chennai eats once a day, and feeds the rest to her 13 dogs

A woman in Chennai, India, has been setting an example of unconditional love for animals. She herself eats once a day but makes sure her 13 dogs get enough food in the Covid-19 lockdown.

Meena, who works as a cook-housemaid, has been living with her canine companions in her two-room house for more than 21 years, reports the Times of India.

She works as a housemaid in the morning hours, and the money she gets is used to take care of her 13 dogs.

“I am not very fond of food. Whatever I get I share with my dogs. But now I must be a little careful. I eat once a day and I save the rest for them [dogs],” she said.

Although there is a food shortage in India due to lockdown, Meena stocked up rice and pet food  by taking some salary in advance.

“I felt a bit awkward when I thought of asking for a salary advance from people whose houses I have been working at for long.”

Meena has devoted her life to taking care of dogs. She even feeds many stray dogs near her house.

“I used to feed a lot of dogs outside as well. But now, it is becoming difficult for me to feed them every day,” she said.

It is becoming difficult for her because of the limited food stock. Waiting for the situation to change, she is hoping that things will become normal soon.
