Bangladeshi man injured during drive against illegal immigrants in Malaysia

A Bangladeshi man and a Malaysian immigration officer were injured during a drive against illegal immigrants at a glove factory in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Malaysia on Saturday.

The Bangladeshi man was injured when he fell while trying to escape arrest in the operation, Malaysian Immigration Director General Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said as quoted by the Malay Mail.

Meanwhile, Immigration officer Nur Erra Ellina Zaharudin, 24, was injured when he fell through a ceiling while chasing female suspected to be an illegal immigrant, the immigration DG added.

The officer is reportedly stable and undergoing treatment at Putrajaya Hospital.

A total 80 immigration officers and members of Malaysia’s Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan office took part in the raid, which began at noon.

Malaysian authorities have conducted a number of drives against illegal immigrants since the expiry of the 3+1 amnesty program last Thursday.

According to Immigration Director General Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, 116,927 foreigners have been inspected and 29,177 of them arrested in 9,527 operations against illegal immigrants from January 1 to August 30 this year.
