Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, capital of the Indian northeastern state Tripura, celebrated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birthday by hoisting Bangladesh's flag to the tune of the country's national anthem -- "Amar Shonar Bangla."
The program takes place every year in Agartala to commemorate the life of Bangladesh's Father of the Nation.
Tripura’s newly-elected Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman attended the program as the chief guest.
Floral tributes were paid to Bangabandhu’s portrait by Assistant High Commissioner of Agartala Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain and Jishnu Debbarman.
A drawing competition for children was held to mark the occasion of “National Children’s Day.”

Pranab ShilSpeaking to reporters, Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain said: “As the birthday of the Father of our Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is celebrated as 'National Children’s Day,' we urge upon the children of Bangladesh to love their motherland the way Bangabandhu did.”
Tripura’s Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman said: “The relation between Tripura and Bangladesh is not merely built on cultural and diplomatic lines. Rather, it is a historic relationship. On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
“The royal family of Tripura, to which I belong, had its estate in Bangladesh. And as a child, I used to listen to my parents glorifying the beauty of Bangladesh,” added Jishnu Debbarman.
