Tripura’s Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman took oath on Friday as a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly representing Charilam constituency – following his unopposed victory at the Charilam polls held on 12 March, 2018.
The oath was administered by the legislative assembly’s pro-tem speaker Ratan Chakraborty.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI-(M) withdrew its candidate, Palash Debbarma two days before the polls were scheduled.
In the results declared on Thursday, BJP’s candidate Jishnu Debbarman set a record of sorts by securing 26,580 votes. The also-ran CPI-(M), despite poll boycott secured a relatively paltry 1030 votes.
