Maha Baruni fair observed near Indo-Bangla border

The Maha Baruni fair was observed with much festivity on Thursday at the bordering district of Sabroom in the northeastern state of Tripura, India. Thousands of devotees across Tripura gathered around the river Feni and took a dip in the water. They believe this bathe purges their sins and saves them from eternal damnation. Every year, the Indo-Bangla border at Sabroom is unofficially unsealed for this occasion. However, according to the Border Security Force Intelligence in Tripura, Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh were prepared to infiltrate Sabroom this year. “The BSF and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) jointly maintained strict vigilance across the border to prevent Rohingya influx,” added BSF sources, requesting anonymity.
