Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, said he wants to avenge the defeat of Pakistan during the 1971 Liberation War, which led to the creation of Bangladesh, by liberating Kashmir, reports
The Tribune.
He made the remark while addressing a gathering on Saturday in Lahore, on the occasion of India and Bangladesh celebrating Victory Day on December 16.
On December 16, 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered after a nine-month long war which resulted in the independence and creation of Bangladesh, formally known as East Pakistan.
Hafiz is a wanted terrorist in India and the United States for his role in the Mumbai attacks. He also heads the UN-listed terrorist group Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and carries a $10 million bounty on his head. The Mumbai attack had claimed 166 civilian lives. However, Saeed continues to exercise influence among religious circles in Pakistan.
According to The Tribune, he was recently released from a house arrest after a Pakistani court cited lack of evidence against him in the Mumbai attack case.
