APJ Abdul Kalam's body taken to Delhi

The body of former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam has been brought to Delhi from Guwahati in Assam.

The chiefs three services were present at the airport where a guard of honour was held, NDTV reported.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the body at the Palam airport.Dr Kalam, 83, collapsed after a massive cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong on Monday evening.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The Indian government has declared a seven-day national mourning as a mark of respect for the acclaimed scientist.

Dr Kalam's funeral will be held on Wednesday in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, where he was born.
