Ex-Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam dies

Former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam has died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Shillong of Meghalaya.

Dr Kalam, 84, breathed his last around 6:40pm Monday, reports Zee News.

According to Press Trust of India, Abul Kalam collapsed at the Indian Institute of Management-Shillong while delivering a lecture.He was rushed to the Bethani Hospital but the on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Born in 1931, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam made his mark as one of India's top space scientists. He was known as the missile man of India.

He became the 11th President of India in 2002.

For his achievements, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna.

The former president of India and acclaimed scientist  visited Bangladesh in October last year.
