Asia Media Conference to begin Friday

The Asia Media Conference 2016 is going to kick-off in Dhaka on Friday with the theme "Reporting Humanitarian Emergencies and Crisis". The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in collaboration with Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) is jointly organising the day-long event. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam will inaugurate the programme at Hotel Le Meridien in the capital at 9:30am, ICRC and BCAB sources said, reports BSS. Different technical and thematic sessions on reporting and humanitarian issues will be tabled in the programme. Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Hafiz Ahmed Majumder, Head of Delegation of ICRC Ikhtiyar Aslanov, Regional Public Relation Adviser of ICRC Graziella Piccoli and DCSB President Angur Nahar Monty will speak at the inaugural session with Head of Communication of ICRC Omarsharif Ghyasy in the chair. Later, two panel discussions and separate questions answers session would be held on different topics of journalism. Jyoti Malhotra, Nithinand and Nizamuddin Hamidi will take part in the first panel discussion on "The Challenges to Responsible and Humanitarian Journalism" with Brian John Thomson in the chair. Besides, Brian John Thomson Dewan Rai and Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan will discuss the issue of "The Threats and Opportunities in the Age of New Media and Innovation" with Toufique Imrose Khalidi in the chair. Eminent media personalities Irwan Nugroho, Myo Tha Htet, Prasad Dodangodage, Anis Alamgir, Rowena Paraan, Xingmei Zhong and Hartosh Singh Bal will also interact and share their experiences with the audiences. The session will be concluded at 5:30pm with the remarks of DCAB General Secretary Pantho Rahman and ICRC Deputy Head of Mission Boris Kelecevic.
