A Bangladeshi student has died in a road accident in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
The deceased has been identified as Tirtho Biswas, 32.
The accident occurred at around 8:30pm on Sunday in the Barrunah Plains area adjacent to Hamilton Highway.
According to reports, Tirtho Biswas lost control of his car, which then crashed into a tree on the side of the road. He died on the spot. Tirtho was a student of the Information Technology department at Deakin University.
He had arrived in Australia a year ago on a student visa. His wife, Ritika Chowdhury, arrived in Australia this past February on a spouse visa.
Rafiqul Islam Sohel, a family friend of Tirtho and a lawyer at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, said: “The deceased’s family is from Chittagong city. His father, Chandan Biswas, is a member of the Chittagong District Bar Association.”
The Bangladeshi community in Australia has expressed deep sorrow over Tirtho Biswas’s death. Local community members have stepped forward to assist with the funeral arrangements and to support the bereaved family.
