Ali Riaz named Atlantic Council senior fellow

Illinois State University’s Distinguished Professor Dr Ali Riaz has been named a Nonresident Senior Fellow by the US capital based Atlantic Council.

The Atlantic Council is ranked in the top 10 in the US in Foreign Policy and International Affairs and in the top 10 global think tanks for defence and national security.

According to Illinois State University website, the Bangladeshi American political scientist Dr Riaz currently holds the Thomas E Eimermann Professorship of Political Science at the university. He will be affiliated with the South Asia Center of the Council.

On September 2018, Riaz had been awarded the inaugural Thomas E Eimermann Professorship for the years 2018-2020.

Previously he served as a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Scholars while writing Bangladesh: A Political History Since Independence (2016).

His book Lived Islam and Islamism in Bangladesh was released in December 2017.

Riaz’s other notable works include God Willing: The Politics of Islamism in Bangladesh (2004), Faithful Education: Madrassahs in South Asia (2008), Islamist Militancy in Bangladesh: A Complex Web (2008), and Islam and Identity Politics Among British-Bangladeshis: A Leap of Faith (2013).
