Mosul battle displaces thousands of Iraqis

Many Iraqi civilians have started to flee on foot amid the dangerous battle between IS and the Iraqi forces that has started in order to recapture Mosul. According to the United Nations, more than 10,000 Iraqis have left their homes since the start of this battle. “That figure is just a fraction of the displacement that aid groups expect to see when Iraqi forces reach the city limits and some of the million-plus people are thought to be inside who are attempting to flee [sic],” says a report on Al Jazeera. According to the same report, around a thousand people were evacuated from their villages by Iraqi counter-terrorism forces and taken to nearby camps. However, “there are no humanitarian corridors to manage the thousands more being displaced, many other people are making this terrifying journey on foot,” they added.
