UAE says Iran drone attack ‘dangerous escalation’

The United Arab Emirates on Monday condemned an Iranian drone attack intercepted over its territorial waters, calling it a “dangerous escalation” after weeks of relative calm.

It marked the first Iranian attack to target UAE territory since May, though the Gulf country has reported attacks targeting its vessels this month.

The UAE’s foreign ministry, in a statement on X, “strongly condemned the hostile Iranian attack on the country involving a drone that was intercepted by air defense systems over UAE territorial waters.”

The ministry also said the UAE reserved the “full and legitimate right to respond.”

The ministry of defense meanwhile said it dealt with a drone coming from Iran over its waters, denying that a base housing US personnel had been targeted with missiles.

Earlier on Monday, Iran had said it targeted the Al Minhad Air base using “dozens of attack drones.”
