A Bangladeshi national has been killed in a missile strike on a residential building in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Kharj Governorate, as regional tensions continue to escalate amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Agency confirmed in a statement posted on social media platform X that two people were killed and 12 others injured when a missile struck a residential compound in the central Saudi city.
Officials said one of the victims was a Bangladeshi citizen, while the other was an Indian national.
Authorities did not immediately release further details about the victims’ identities.
The missile strike comes as hostilities in the Middle East intensify following the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28 and the subsequent escalation across the region.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) earlier said it had targeted radar systems at several locations in Saudi Arabia, including in Al-Kharj, where the casualties occurred.
While Saudi authorities confirmed the deaths and injuries, they did not specify the origin of the missile in their initial statement.
Millions of expatriate workers from South Asia, including Bangladesh and India, live and work in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, many of them residing in residential compounds similar to the one struck in Al-Kharj.
Regional tensions have continued to rise as retaliatory strikes expand across the Gulf.
Earlier this week, drone attacks targeted the US embassy in Saudi Arabia and the US consulate in the United Arab Emirates, according to reports.
Iran has said its retaliatory operations are aimed at US military installations and strategic infrastructure in countries hosting American bases in the Middle East.
The Al-Kharj strike is among the latest incidents affecting civilian areas as the broader confrontation between Iran and its adversaries continues to unfold across the region.
