Bangladesh HC in UK: Citizens must wait till Oct 4

Despite the UK removing Bangladesh from its travel red list, the Bangladesh High Commission in London has suggested that fellow countrymen wait till October 4 when the British government issues a travel advisory, reports Voice of America (Bangla service).

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem was quoted as saying: “The British government has kept a grace period between September 22 and October 4.”

After repeated requests, the UK on September 17 announced to move Bangladesh and seven more countries from the harshest restrictions (red list) on travel to the amber list.

The decision came into effect from 4am on Wednesday, exempting Bangladeshi travellers from a 10-day hotel quarantine starting the same day.

Recently, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen revealed that the UK government was doing a disservice to its own citizens as more than 7,000 British-Bangladeshis were stranded in Bangladesh.

Owing to evidence suggesting community transmission of the Covid-19 variants of concern, Bangladesh was added to the red list on 9.
