A Bangladeshi man has been detained for allegedly raping a Finnish woman in Italy.
The 23-year-old man was detained from a restaurant in northern Rome on Monday.
According to Khaleej Times, the accused has a humanitarian permit to stay in Italy and works in several other places apart from the restaurant.
The accused allegedly attacked the Finnish woman near Rome’s central Termini rail station and stole €40 from her on Sunday after offering to give her a lift home in his car.
The victim identified the accused from security camera footage, law enforcement official said.
Virginia Raggi, Rome's female grass-roots mayor, expressed solidarity with the victim.
"Solidarity with the Finnish girl attacked near Termini rail station. Rome will not accept any kind of violence," she said.
