President, PM mourn death of former Japanese premier Abe

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.

In a condolence message, President Hamid condemned the brutal killing of the Japanese premier, reports BSS.

The head of the state prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of Shinzo Abe and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has also expressed deep shock at the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, reports UNB.

In a condolence message, Momen said: "Shinzo Abe was a close friend of mine and he was also a friend of Bangladesh."

Momen described the shooting on Shinzo Abe as "disgusting".

“The people of Japan had lost an extraordinary leader, while Bangladesh had lost a true friend,” he added. 

The minister wished eternal peace to the departed soul of Shinzo Abe and extended his deepest sympathies to the members of his bereaved family and the people of Japan.

The attack on Shinzo Abe, the man who remained Japan's longest-serving prime minister, shocked the entire world.

Abe, 67, was shot while giving a campaign speech in western Japan. 

The former Japanese leader immediately collapsed after being shot in chest and neck and was airlifted to hospital. He was pronounced dead about five hours later at 5pm.

The suspected attacker is a 41-year old man who was tackled at the scene and is now in police custody.

The attack was a shock in one of the world’s safest countries with some of the strictest gun control laws.
