India recorded 39,742 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, registering a 1.64% increase than the previous day.
With the latest figures, the caseload surged to 31,371,901 after the pandemic hit last year in January, reports Scroll.in.
Fatalities rose by 535 to 420,551, while the number of active cases dropped by 765 to 408,212.
A total of 30,543,138 patients have recovered from the disease to date.
The country has so far administered 433,150,864 doses of vaccine to its patients.
The Indian Express reported that the Delhi government has instructed that cinemas, spas, and multiplexes will reopen from Monday.
The capacity, however, was instructed to be kept at 50%. By contrast, buses and trains are allowed to run at full capacity.
As The Capital reported 66 new cases and no deaths on Saturday, the Indian government took the decision to ease the restrictions.
Randeep Guleria, the chief of the India Institute of Medical Sciences, has said that vaccinations for children would start to take place from September.
He also mentioned that even though kids are less likely to get infected, there is still a risk that they may transmit them to vulnerable family members.
Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 193.6 million people and caused death to over 4.15 million people, according to Johns Hopkins University.
