A Chinese woman was shocked to learn that she was born male after a year of trying to conceive.
According to South China Morning Post, the 25-year-old woman learned she is intersex after having an X-ray on her broken ankle, where it revealed that her bone had not developed since her adolescence.
The woman told a local doctor that when she was young, a doctor convinced her that she was just developing slower than others sexually. With time she found this issue quite strange and embarrassing but didn’t take it seriously.
She also said that possessing female genitalia gave her no excuse to be anything more than a biological woman.
Studies show this is a typical symptom of a disease called “Congenital adrenal hyperplasia,” which might have caused the sexual development disorder.
Her karyotype was 46, XY, which is present in males, that do not have genitalia of either male or female
The woman also found that, in addition to missing a uterus and ovaries, she also lacked male genitalia and Adam's apple.
