Three Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers have been killed, and four others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Mali on Sunday.
The Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) confirmed the matter in a press release.
The deceased soldiers are, Sergeant Altaf from Dinajpur, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps, Lance Corporal Jakirul from Netrokona with the Field Artillery Regiment and Sainik Monowar from Barisal with the East Bengal Regiment.
The injured are, Major Jadid from Dhaka, Corporal Mohim, Infantry from Noakhali, Sainik Sobuj from Naogaon and Sainik Sarwar from Jessore, all with the Infantry Division. The injured were sent to Gao city for better treatment.
According to the ISPR press release, Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers engaged a group of terrorists and drove them back last Saturday. However, the criminals ambushed the peacekeepers as they were returning to the UN camp on Sunday.
The peacekeepers successfully defended themselves, but triggered an IED buried in the road. The resulting explosion left three dead, and injured four peacekeepers.
