Knife attack injures 8 in Russia, assailant killed by police

At least eight people have been injured in a knife attack on pedestrians in the Russian city of Surgut at around 11:20am Saturday (local time). The attacker was shot dead by a police patrol responding to the emergency reported by witnesses, reports Russia Today. Nobody was killed, but the victims of the violence required medical treatment. Russian police are now trying to identify the attacker and determine a motive for the stabbing spree. Footage, below, which was posted on the internet appears shows the aftermath of a police confrontation with the armed man. It has a population of over 360,000 and is a major centre for oil and gas extraction in Russia.
