Saudia Airlines staffer terminated over taking bribes

An employee of Saudia Airline was terminated over taking bribes from passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The airport authority found evidence of Mannan Hossain, who worked as a helper in Saudia Airlines, taking bribe from a Middle East bound expatriate after checking CCTV footage, said top officials of the Aviation Security.

The officials said that Mannan asked for money claiming that the passenger had problems with his passport and would need Covid booster dose.

Later, he was fired after the matter was reported to the airport authorities.

The officials further said that Mannan had been harassing passengers like this for a long time.

Airport Executive Director Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam said: "No one will be exempted if there is evidence of any unethical activities including misbehaviour with passengers or unnecessarily demanding money.”

He added that if anyone experienced such occurrence, they should inform so the airport authorities can quickly take action.

However, Dhaka Tribune did not get any comment from Saudia Airlines.

On August 10, chairman of the airport apex body, Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman warned that none would be allowed to work at the airports if they misbehaved with the passengers.
