A man allegedly fatally hit his landlord in the head with a hammer and took a selfie with the body before running away from the house in New Delhi, India.
Pankaj Kumar, hailing from Bihar, was arrested within 24 hours of the crime, NDTV reported on Saturday.
He killed his landlord, Suresh, on August 9 after a fight over the former’s alcohol addiction, the police said. Kumar had moved into the house just four days ago.
Afterwards, Kumar escaped with Suresh’s mobile phone and ID card.
The next day Kumar called the landlord's son, Jagdish, by phone to inform that he had left the house because Suresh had hurled abuses at him, an act he could not tolerate.
Jagdish, however, became suspicious and rushed to the first floor of the house, where he found the body of Suresh and alerted the police.
The murder took place after a fight broke out between Kumar and Suresh, when the former came to the house in a drunken state. The issue was apparently settled after Kumar apologized to Suresh and Jagdish.
After Kumar fled the area, the police used the help of informers as well as electronic surveillance and arrested the accused after chasing him for 250km.
During interrogation, the arrestee said he had killed Suresh as he had felt insulted by the latter’s words..
The accused reportedly told the police that he hit Suresh with a hammer when he was asleep. He also disclosed that after killing Suresh he also took a selfie and made a video with the body.
"The accused called Suresh's son the next day to assess the situation. He revealed that he had been wandering from one place to another to evade arrest," the police said.
