450km-long Justice March in Turkey against Erdogan

Thousands of Turkish people staged a 450km-long Justice March from Ankara to Istanbul against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he used his emergency powers to arrest tens of thousands of opposition members including leftists, liberals and Kurds. In an unpleasant route in temperatures of 30°C, the march with a motorcade neared Istanbul on the 19th day of the march, reports BBC. Thousands of people who gathered for the long march wearing white T-shirts chanted "Adalet! (Justice)". The movement was fuelled when Enis Berberoglu, an opposition MP from the Republican People's Party (CHP) of Turkey, was sentenced to 25-year imprisonment on June 4, over spying charges. But it has become a wider revolt against what participants see as an erosion of democracy under President Erdogan. The march was led by the CHP leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu. It is due to end on Sunday near the prison in Istanbul where the MP Enis Berberoglu is being detained, reports The New York Times.
