The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on all countries to step up efforts to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
“As we mark this sombre moment, WHO reminds all countries and communities that the spread of this virus can be significantly slowed or even reversed through the implementation of robust containment and control activities,” said the UN health agency in a statement on Saturday.
It said that China and a few other countries are showing that the spread of the virus can be slowed using universally applicable actions, reports UNB
“Every effort to contain the virus and slow the spread saves lives,” the agency said.
WHO said everyone should cooperate to reduce the impact of the virus at every opportunity.
“Every person has the capacity to contribute, to protect themselves, to protect others, whether in the home, the community, the health care system, the work place or the transport system,” the statement said.
Coronavirus was first reported in China’s Wuhan last December and has since been detected in many other countries.
Total number of COVID-19 cases went past 100,000 on Saturday.
