The New Zealand mosque shooter wrote in a document published online before the attack that he was inspired by Norway mass killer Anders Behring Breivik.
Anders Breivik is a Norwegian far-right terrorist who committed the 2011 Norway attacks, killing eight people by a van bomb in Oslo, then shooting dead 69 participants of a Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp on the island of Utoya.
The Christchurch mass shooter Brenton Tarrant refers to Breivik several times in his manifesto, and claimed he had met him.
“I have only had brief contact with Knight Justiciar Breivik, receiving a blessing for my mission after contacting his brother knights.”
He mentions again that he met the organization, Knights Templar, and received their blessing.
Knights Templar was a medieval Catholic military organization. Breivik, during his trial, maintained that the organization had been revived as a Christian anti-Muslim militant group, although European law enforcement strongly contend his claims.
Breivik says the Christian military order was refounded in 2002 in London under the name PCCTS.
