The Bangladesh tennis team started their 2013 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group-IV campaign with a shocking 0-3 defeat to Turkmenistan in Dubai, United Arab Emirates yesterday.
The loss comes as a heavy blow to Bangladesh’s chances of making it to the next round as Turkmenistan were considered one of the weakest teams in pool A. Before the encounter, Bangladesh had Turkmenistan six times out of six.
Md Anwar Hossain lost the first singles rubber and Sree Amol Roy, who won the gold at the 8th Bangladesh Games, went down in the second. Md Jamil Bhuiyan and Sree Bilpob Ram lost the doubles match to complete the overall result.
Bangladesh will take on Iraq in their second match today. Bangladesh has won four of the last five encounters against them.
