Bangladesh’s Mehedi Hasan Alve emerged as the runners-up in the 11-day long ITF Asian U-14 Development Championship 2019 Division 2 Tennis in Thailand.
In the boys’ singles final, Alvi lost to Jordan’s Mohammad Alkotop 1-6 0-6.
In the boys’ doubles, Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ruman Hossain and Hamid Israel Gul of Pakistan clinched the title after beating Iran’s Ali Amir Gavam and Kasra Rahmani 6-2 6-1 in the final.
In the boys’ singles, Bangladesh’s Jubaid Utsha defeated Turkmenistan’s Kakajan Bayramgeldiev 5-4 (5) 4-0 to finish 11th while Ruman ended 17th after beating Myanmar’s Saw Lin Htut 4-1 4-2.

Meanwhile in the girls’ singles, Bangladesh’s Mashfia Afrin defeated Kygyzstan’s Elizaveta Kiva 4-2 4-1 to finith fifth while her compatriot Sadia Afrin ended 10th after losing to Turkmenistan’s Anastasiva Azimbayeva 0-4 2-4.
Bangladesh’s Suborna Khatun finished eighth after losing to Kyrgyzstan’s Varavara Liubchenko 4-2 2-4 8-10.
The second round of the competition will begin Monday.
