The Walton Home Appliance First Division Chess League comprising 10 clubs will get underway at the chess federation hall room tomorrow.
Walton, the leading sponsor in the local sports arena, has returned to the chess circuit after a span of three years and vowed to continue their support for the game.
The top two teams of the competition will be promoted to the first division while the bottom two sides will be relegated to the second division. Each team will be allowed to insert six players including two foreigners.
In a presser held at the conference room of Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday, Walton additional director FM Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn said they will also be sponsoring the Premier Division Chess League that will begin after the completion of the First Division Chess League. Walton will also be sponsoring Shamima Akhter Liza in the World Chess Championship. Bangaldesh Chess Federation general secretary Gazi Shaiful Tareque, vice president KM Shahidullah, joint secretary Morsalin Ahmed, chief arbiter Harunur Rashid and Shamim Khan were also present on the occasion.
