Reigning champion GM Abdullah Al Rakib of Bangladesh Navy drew his second round match against GM Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohammedan SC Limited in the Berger Paints National Chess at Bangladesh Olympic Association media centre yesterday.
Rakib played with white pieces in Queen’s Gambit Declined game. Niaz offered a draw after 12 moves but Rakib refused. However, after 18 moves Rakib offered a draw and Niaz accepted.
GM Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Mohammedan SC Limited beat CM Sohel Chowdhury of Leonine Chess Club. GM Enamul Hossain of Bangladesh Navy beat his teammate FM Aminul Islam. IM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy beat CM Mahtabuddin Ahmed of Dhaka Mohammedan SC Limited. Sheikh Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy beat FM Debaraj Chatterjee of Titas Club. Uten of Access Group beat Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan of Sonali Bank Sports and Recreation Club. At the end of the second round four players - GM Enamul, IM Minhaz, FM Nasir and Uten - earned maximum two points.
