Avik makes history with UAE Touring Car Championship triumph

Ace Bangladeshi racer Avik Anwar has been crowned champion in the Renault Clio category of the Gulf Pro Car Championship Series 2025–2026 after a successful showing in Round 7 in Dubai on Saturday.

Avik continued his impressive run of form, having also topped Round 6 of the same category at the Dubai Autodrome in late March.

With his latest success in Round 7 — where he competed in Race 12 and Race 13 — Avik secured the overall UAE Touring Car Championship title for the 2025–2026 season through consistent performances throughout the series. According to the racer, this marks the first time a Bangladeshi has achieved the feat.

“Out of a total of 40 international competitors, I became the Overall Champion with 377 points, while the second-place finisher, Maxim Volykin, scored 207 points,” said Avik following Round 7.

“Notably, today’s race was held in the rain, where most drivers used proper rain tires, but I raced on slick tires. Despite the adverse conditions, by the grace of Almighty Allah, I was able to deliver an extraordinary performance — a drive worthy of a true champion.”

Drivers from across the globe, including the UK, Ireland, Germany, India, France, Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Hong Kong, China, Italy and Lebanon, took part in the championship.

The achievement marks a major milestone in the history of Bangladesh motorsports.

Avik added, “This success came despite limited resources, challenging weather conditions and intense competition. It will further strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the international motorsports arena in the years to come.”
