Bangladesh’s weightlifter Marjia Akter Ekra secured a bronze at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 at the Boulevard SEF Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
The 6th edition of the competition started on Friday and will run until November 21.
Athletes from 57 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are competing in 21 different sports.
Ekra’s medal, the first for Bangladesh in this year’s meet, came in the women’s 53kg weightlifting category.
The Bangladeshi weightlifter lifted a total of 163kg (72kg in snatches and 91kg in clean and jerks) to clinch the third spot ahead of participants from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Algeria, Azerbaijan, and Brunei.
Turkey's Cansel Ozkan won the gold, lifting 188kg, while Indonesia's Basilia Bamerop bagged silver with 174kg.
Bangladesh’s ace weightlifter Mabia Akter is also in the Games. She will be competing in the women’s 69kg at the same venue on Monday.
A total of 35 athletes from Bangladesh, including 19 male and 16 female, are participating in the meet.
