The Bangladesh women's team defeated the Dominican Republic Wednesday, with veteran Rani Hamid securing her fourth consecutive win.
The open team also earned a notable draw against Slovakia in the seventh-round matches of the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
The women’s team won their match 2.5-1.5, as Rani and Wadifa Ahmed defeated Franchesca Ramirez Luzon and Mary Gonzalez Peguero, respectively, while Noshin Anjum drew against Patricia Evarista Castillo Pena.
Walijah Ahmed however, lost her game to Wilsaida Pieranlly Diaz of the Dominican Republic.
With this victory, the Bangladesh women's team jumped to 40th place in the rankings, up from 57th after the sixth round.
In the open section, International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman defeated Slovakian Grandmaster Viktor Gazik, but Bangladesh’s GM Enamul Hossain Razib lost to Slovakian IM Samir Sahidi.
GM Niaz Murshed and FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia drew against Juraj Druska and Sebastian Lukas Kostolansky, respectively.
Following the draw, the Bangladesh open team slipped to 73rd in the rankings, down from 61st.
The women’s team will face Sweden, while the open team is set to play against Kazakhstan in the eighth round Thursday.
