Bangladesh’s lone shooter at the 2024 Olympic Games, Robiul Islam has been eliminated in the qualification round of the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event, held in Paris Sunday.
Robiul scored 624.2 points to finish 43rd out of 49 participants.
Only the top eight athletes from the qualification round advanced to the final.
Chinese shooter Lihao Sheng and Argentina’s Marcelo Julian Gutierrez ranked first and second, respectively, with identical scores of 631.7.
Earlier in January, Robiul scored 628 at the Asian Championship, where a score of 628.3 or higher would have earned him a direct Olympic berth.
He participated in the Olympics through a wildcard entry.
Only Sagor Islam from Bangladesh qualified for Paris through direct qualification.
The young archer scored 652 out of 720, placing him 45th out of 64 in the men’s individual ranking round Thursday.
He faces an uphill task against Mauro Nespoli, who ranked 20th with a score of 670 in the 1/32 Elimination Round Wednesday, to stay in the race at the biggest multi-sport event on earth.
