Bangladesh kabaddi team moved closer to the last-four with three consecutive wins in Bangabandhu Cup 2024 as they beat Indonesia 59-19 in Mirpur’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium Wednesday.
The victory saw the reigning three-time champions lead the six-team Group A points table with maximum nine points following wins over South Korea and Malaysia earlier.
Veteran coaches Subimal Chandra Das and Abdul Jalil’s tactical plan proved too much for the Indonesians who earned their first point when the scoreboard showed Bangladesh had 25.
"We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves because we still have matches to play. We hope to progress as group winner. Our goal is to retain the trophy," Jalil said after their third win.
The first Lona for Bangladesh was attained in the sixth minute and the hosts added four more before the final whistle.
Arduzzaman Munshi and Co led the first half 35-2.
Mizanur Rahman tormented the Indonesian defence with the same prowess from the start of the tournament and recorded 18 points to his credit.
He was the runaway leader for the man of the match award and duly got it.
"The team members gave their best and we won the game. It was the result of team effort. Right now, we want to do everything to win the title," Mizan said after the match.
Yasin scored the second highest 10 points for the red and green flag bearers.
Bangladesh face Poland at 10am Thursday and a win will secure semi ticket for the home side.
