Bangladesh’s leading triathlete Shamsuzzaman Arafat has achieved 2023 Ironman Gold All World Athlete status for his performance during the 2022 racing season.
The achievement positions Arafat among the top 2% athletes of the world in his age group.
“It’s a historic achievement for Bangladesh. It’s a big milestone in my triathlon journey,” Arafat wrote on social media Thursday after achieving the new feat.
“I feel proud to achieve this for the first time for Bangladesh. I received this status based on my performance in 2022. The Ironman officials handed over the badge and letter in Finland today.
“It’s a historic moment for Bangladesh. I hope triathlon in our country will progress further,” he added.
Arafat also shared a photograph of the recognition letter where it is stated, “Congratulations on achieving 2023 Ironman Gold All World Athlete Status. This means that your performance and dedication during the 2022 racing season has positioned you among the top 2% of athletes in your age group, globally.
“This achievement does not come without hard work, devotion to training, and to triathlon. Thank you for your commitment and for inspiring those around you. You, a leader in this sport, play a great role in taking swim, bike and run into the future.”
Arafat arrived in Finland Wednesday to take part in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship which will take place Sunday before moving to France for the Ironman World Championship, scheduled for September 10.
