Mohammad Fahad Rahman became the youngest FIDE Master of Bangladesh after the World Chess Federation, FIDE, awarded the youngster with the title on July 17.
Fahad is the 13th Bangladeshi to achieve the FIDE Master title. The 10-year-old completed the criteria of becoming a FM after winning the 14th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, last month.
“I was expecting to become the FIDE Master soon. I’m very excited to achieve it. Now my target is to become a Grand Master,” said the young prodigy.
The national junior champion first gained attention two years ago when he beat the second Bangladeshi GM Ziaur Rahman Zia in a friendly duel in just eight minutes. When he was eight, Fahad was ranked as the top chess player in the World Under-8 Chess rating.
