Habib-Shahid brothers win National Pairs Bridge Championship

Mostafizur Habib and Shahidul Islam Minar became the winners of the 37th National Pairs Bridge Championship to clinch the Khondkar Fazle Sobhan trophy in the capital Saturday.

The champion duo, who are brothers, scored a grand total of 105.85 to secure their maiden national pairs title.

Mohammad Alauddin and Hasan Sumon finished runners-up with a grand total of 97.30.

Habib, 29, is an electrical engineer while Shahidul, two years younger, is a pharmacist.

The 37th National Pairs Bridge Championship was held at Rawa Club Mehedi Hasan/Dhaka Tribune 


“We became the winners of the team tournament three times but never in the national pairs competition before which is very competitive. So the feeling is great,” Shahidul told Dhaka Tribune.

He also said they are now preparing for the qualifiers of the World Cup scheduled to be held in Pakistan next month.

Farooq Sobhan, former president of Bangladesh Bridge Federation, graced the occasion as chief guest while current president Md Jahangir Alam and Youth and Sports secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed were also present.
