Bangladesh archers bagged as many as three gold medals Saturday in the 2022 Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament Stage-1 in Phuket, Thailand.
The Bangladesh archers, namely Mohammad Ruman Shana and Diya Siddiqui, have been doing the country proud in recent times with their achievements in international competitions, and the two were pretty much in the thick of things Saturday.
The day started with Bangladesh bagging gold in the recurve mixed team event.
The Bangladesh archery team comprising ace archer Ruman and Nasrin Akhter pair beat their Indian rivals by 5-3 sets in the final to bag the country's first gold in the ongoing tournament.
On the way to winning the gold, Bangladesh lost the first set by 34-37 points.
However, Bangladesh did not give up hope as Ruman-Nasrin duo staged a brilliant fightback with the second set ending in a 37-37 draw.
Eventually Bangladesh won the third and fourth sets by 38-35 and 37-36 points respectively.
Earlier Friday, Ruman and Nasrin pair set up the final clash with India following a dominating performance, eliminating their Kazakhstan rivals by 6-0 sets in the semi-final.
The second gold of the day was brought by the Bangladesh women, also against India, in the recurve team event.
Bangladesh women's team containing Diya, Nasrin and Famida Sultana Nisha beat India's Puniya, Ridhi and Tanisha by 5-4 sets.
India won the first set by 48-47 points before Bangladesh staged a comeback to bag the second set 54-45.
Bangladesh took the lead by winning the third set 60-56 before India won the fourth set 56-50.
Bangladesh women then claimed gold after winning the fifth set tiebreak 28-27.
The third and final gold of the day came in the recurve women's singles where the final was an all-Bangladesh affair.
Nasrin got the better of compatriot Diya as the former prevailed by 6-2 sets.
Nasrin won the first set 28-26 before also winning the second set 28-26.
The third set ended in a 28-all draw while the fourth set also finished in a 27-all draw.
Nasrin eventually won 6-2 as Diya had to be content with a silver.
