Bangladeshi born French citizen Mohammad Fahim emerged as the champion of the World School Chess Under-13 Championship Open on May 14 in Porto Carras – Halkidiki in Greece. Fahim earned seven points (rating 2031) to beat Belarus opponent Kazakovskiy Valeriy (rating 1971), Uzbekistan's Igonin Temur (2024) and Kazakhstan's Agmanov Zhandos (1917) and became the 2013 FIDE World School Champion. Born in Shariyatpur, Fahim was accompanied by his father Nure Alam when he left Bangladesh in 2008 to take part in an international under-8 tournament in Hungary before they went to France. Fahim produced a brilliant display to clinch the France national sub junior title which made the French government give them citizenship alongside a job for Alam in City Corporation. "I will give and try my best to become one of the best Grand Master in the world," Fahim said after winning the school title.
