PM to open 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games on April 1

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games, marking the 50th anniversary of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on April 1, informs a press release of Bangladesh Olympic Association. 

The BOA ensured PM will inaugurate the extravaganza virtually as a total of 5300 athletes will vie for the 1271 medals in 378 events of 31 disciplines acroos seven divisional cities and in the capital. 

The games were scheduled to be held in April last year, but the organizers postponed the game due to the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The torch of the 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games will be ignited at Tungipara, the birth place of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The president of Bangladesh Olympic Association, General Aziz Ahmed will ignite the torch that will be carried to the capital with a colourful motor rally.

In a press conference at the Dutch Bangla Bank auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association on Sunday, BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza assured the games will be hosted under full scale scrutiny of Covid-19. “BOA has taken all the required steps to hold the games under an effective vigilance plan against the Covid-19 and a high profile medical committee has been formed to face any situation” said Reza.

BOA vice president Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, deputy secretary generals Ashikur Rahman Miku and Asaduzzamn Kohinoor, Treasurer Kazi Razibuddin Ahmed Chapol were also present on the occasion among others.
